15 Minute Organizing Tips for Fall: Part II

In Part I we shared quick, 15-minute tasks to create more organization in your kitchen, pantry and other shared spaces. Now we’re back with Part II, where we focus on more hidden clutter that is often overlooked.

These simple tasks should take less than 15-minutes, but can have a huge impact on your space and time. Prioritizing these this fall will help you reduce stress and help you feel more organized through this busy season.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology is a type of clutter that people often overlook—whether it’s messy cords on a counter, or drawers full of cables with no match, in our tech enabled world, it’s easy for things to pile up.

Do a tech edit. Go through chargers and old cables. These days, even your frother comes with a charging cable, but it’s likely the same one as at least 10 other devices. Review your cords, match them to devices and get rid of the duplicates! I recently got this charging station for my kitchen that has two retractable cables—this keeps chargers accessible, but counters clear.

Recycle old devices. Often, people hold onto old phones and laptops because they don’t know what to do with them, or how to dispose of them properly. Retailers like Best Buy and phone carriers have buy back and recycle programs, or companies like Gazelle will buy them for cash.

Clean up cords. Messy cords by your desk, nightstand or on a kitchen counter contributes to visual clutter and makes a space feel messier than it is. Cut tags off of cords, tidy up hanging and tangled cords, and wrap cables to instantly refresh your space. We love these velcro cord wraps and use them on all of our clients appliances and hanging cords!

Toss packaging. Apple (and other brands) invest a lot in package design to reinforce brand perception before you even see the device. The perfect air-seal and magnetic closure increases perceived value and elicits an emotional response, which is why it feels hard to toss those old iPhone boxes. It’s all a marketing tactic, and it works well, making those boxes feel necessary, even collectible. But no matter how sleek they are, boxes are still boxes and they all contribute to clutter. Tossing them is a simple step toward a clutter-free space.

DAILY ROUTINE

Shorter days and busier schedules call for set routines and systems. A few simple changes can really help make life run more smoothly.

Set up a paper inbox. With an increase of paperwork—school forms, mail, and more—organize it all in a tray or basket. This way, you can easily clear it out at the end of the week to start fresh for the next.

Tidy the Junk Drawer

We all have a catchall drawer where everything quickly piles up. Take a few minutes to take everything out to sort and toss items you aren’t using, and move things you don’t need access to on a daily basis. Bonus tip: invest in drawer organizers to give items a home.

Establish a night reset. Create a night routine for calmer mornings. Wipe down counters, pack lunches, set out clothes, charge your devices, prep your coffee maker, any tasks that can happen in advance to set yourself up for success the next day.

By taking just a few minutes here and there with these tips, you can create a home and life that feels lighter, calmer, and ready for the season ahead. Fall is about slowing down, enjoying cozy and relaxed nights, and spending time with loved ones—simple organizational changes can really make a difference and create space for what matters most.
