15 Minute Organizing Tips for Fall: Part I

As the crisp air rolls in and a new season begins, it’s the perfect time to reset areas of your home. With the start of the school year, holidays approaching, and cooler weather keeping us inside more, a reorganized home can make a big impact in creating a calmer day-to-day that we all desire.

While it can be difficult to carve out the necessary time, you often don’t need a full day or weekend dedicated to organizing—using just a few organizational hacks that can be done in 15 minutes or less, you’ll be set up for a smooth, stress-free season.

KITCHEN & PANTRY

The kitchen becomes the center of the home this time of year. Between school lunch prep, weeknight dinners, and holiday baking, it’s easy for things to get messy.

Streamline food storage. Tupperware can quickly pile up and matching sets can get disorganized. Toss containers without lids and keep only what you typically use.

Declutter your counter. Kitchen counters are often overused by a lot of appliances and gadgets we don’t actually need out. Instantly refresh your kitchen and reduce visual clutter by putting away appliances you aren’t using every day.

Edit the pantry. Check expiration dates, clear out old items, and take stock of staples before planning food shopping. Commit to pantry clean outs regularly to prevent food waste and be better prepared for all the cozy meals you’ll need.

CLOSETS & STORAGE

As wardrobes and systems change seasonally, closet and storage spaces are easy spots to tackle and reset.

Create a donation spot. Fall is the perfect time to edit items that you use versus what you may not need anymore. Make it simple to edit on the spot by adding a donation bin to every closet.

Maximize closet space. Sweaters and boots take up more room, so don’t forget to use floor space! Add a shoe rack to your closet to create more room for storage and make better use of the space.

Sort your linens. As you start to use more blankets and heavier bedding, it’s a great time to go through all of your linens and towels. Toss stained items and donate what you aren’t using. Two sets of sheets for each bed (and a couple of towels per person) is usually all that you need.

Small changes can make meaningful shifts to your home, routine, and peace of mind. Check out Part II, where we share more quick tips to jumpstart your organizing so you feel ready for the season ahead.
